WOCU SEAL

WOCU Seal graphic designed by WOCU member Radha Pyari Sandhir

What is the WOCU Seal?

The WOCU Seal is a merit-based endorsement for productions. Similar to industry guild designations for the DGA and SAG-AFTRA, who validate productions that abide by their guidelines for the ethical treatment of their membership, companies and industry leadership that HIRE at least 20% WOC as part of their verified workforce are eligible.

Voluntary compliance demonstrates that a company fully supports and cooperates with WOCU’s mission, including promoting a safe work environment and equitable wages. Additionally, the Seal recognizes participation in the directives for inclusive hiring practices set forth in the Inclusion Rider.

The Seal is a designation that our allies can proudly use to promote their advocacy for Fair Access, Fair Treatment and Fair Pay in a concrete and measurable way. It signals that they are part of the solution to achieve diversity and inclusion objectives.

Lastly, with the cooperation and verification process, WOCU can begin to collect real data to track the trajectory of WOC in our industry; data that will be an industry benchmark and become more valuable over time including becoming accessible to companies, vendors, governmental agencies and industry leaders as hiring practices become more transparent going forward.

Apply to Adopt the WOCU SEAL

Production companies can adopt the Seal as “Ambassadors”, meaning the WOCU Seal will apply to all of their productions. You can also apply to adopt the Seal for one single production.

For accountability purposes, we require Company Ambassadors to commit to reporting hiring statistics every quarter. You will deliver either your SAG or DGA hiring reports, or similar for non-union projects.

For Seal recipients, we request each approved production please provide information on:

  1. How the job(s) were listed;
  2. Number of total submissions for each job;
  3. Number of total interviews for each job;
  4. Number of total WOC interviewed for each job; and
  5. Number of hired WOC.

After hiring, WOCU requests that WOC hires be provided a WOCU Seal Information Sheet with a feedback form on their hiring experience and work experience for the Seal recipient.
