PROJECT SUMMARY

Zari, a precocious young artist, prepares for the exhibition of her dreams, all while ignoring her girlfriend Aina’s attempt to talk about their relationship problems. However, as soon as she steps out of the apartment, she’s transported into a video game.

Once Zari comes to her senses, she is greeted with various mirror versions of herself, all a different alternative to what she could become. As they close in on her, she’s forced to pick a version of herself.

Zari wakes up in a mirror of her apartment. In this world, she has everything she’s ever dreamed of—-recognition, power, and a girlfriend who is understanding of her ambitions. However, the longer she stays, the more disillusioned she becomes. Finally, Zari makes the decision to leave her ideal world.

Zari wakes up in the final level. She comes face to face with her most prized painting and is confronted with the choice to burn it and complete the game or stay trapped forever. As Zari burns the painting, she lets go of the egoism that’s confined her for so long. Simultaneously, it’s revealed that Aina had been observing this entire time and that she was the one to put Zari through the simulation in the first place.

Zari wakes up in her apartment and apologizes to Aina, determined to re-approach her in a new way.

PROJECT MISSION

We want to create stories that expand our audience’s imagination of what is possible for ourselves as well as the collective, stories that explore the dichotomy between joy and conflict. By reflecting on accountability and exploring radical healing, we want to encourage our audience to confront our discomfort and move away from the capitalistic veil that entraps us. We want to tell stories about Black women that spans beyond racial conversation, stories that focus on liberty and joy.
